It's been a few years since Lightning McQueen, the small-town hotshot, became a world champion. Life in Radiator Springs has been quiet, with Mater, his best friend, enjoying the peace and quiet. However, Mater's life is about to take a drastic turn.

While on a routine road trip with Lightning, Mater stumbles upon an intriguing conversation between two suspicious-looking cars, Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, at a high-end fueling station. Unbeknownst to Mater, these two are top-secret spies working for the British intelligence agency, MI6.

Mater's innocent curiosity gets the better of him, and he accidentally gets entangled in the espionage world. Finn and Holley, impressed by Mater's unintentional knack for gathering intel, decide to recruit him for a high-stakes mission. They convince Mater that he's the perfect candidate due to his friendly, down-to-earth nature, which allows him to blend in seamlessly with his surroundings.

Upon their return to Radiator Springs, Mater regales his friends with tales of his spy escapades, though few believe the more fantastical aspects of his story. Lightning McQueen, however, knows better, having been a silent ally throughout Mater's mission.
